Until now, testing a field device required connecting it to a bulky power supply, which was inconvenient to handle and sometimes a problem to travel with. A new tool from Pepperl+Fuchs, however, allows easy on-site testing, configuration, tag setting and reading of status information by simply connecting the device to any notebook computer. The matchbox-sized FieldConnex® USB Power Supply (USB-FBPS-1.11.45.NI) comes with all connectors and is designed for easy plug-and-play operation.

The new FieldConnex® USB Power Supply USB-FBPS-1.11.45.NI offers a new and easy way to communicate with any FOUNDATION Fieldbus H1 instrument. It works both on and off site and provides commissioning and maintenance teams with a higher level of productivity than ever before. A DB9-connector connects directly to the output cube of an NI PCMCIA-FBUS card from National Instruments (not included) and offers direct communication with the device, while the notebook’s USB port supplies it with 11 Volts and up to 45 Milliamps of power.
The USB Power Supply always provides the impedance required to prevent the communications signal from being short-circuited by the power supply’s otherwise low internal resistance. With this new USB Power Supply, field technicians do not need to have a bulky power supply or battery in order to test, read or configure a fieldbus instrument. This drastically cuts the time and effort while eliminating the danger of incorrect connections. The USB Fieldbus Power Supply USB-FBPS -1.11.45.NI offers plug-and-play availability and is certified for Zone 2 operation.
