Buehl to Become Competence Center
Pepperl+Fuchs acquires “Intrinsic Safety Instrumentation” business from COOPER
Product range "Intrinsic Safety Instrumentation" from COOPER Crouse-Hinds GmbH
In an asset deal on 7 July, Pepperl+Fuchs GmbH acquired all business assets required for the transfer of the Intrinsic Safety Instrumentation business from COOPER Crouse-Hinds GmbH. A US$ 5-billion company, COOPER was facing the decision to develop their own distribution channel for their automatic intrinsic safety products. In the end, however, they decided to dispose of the division, which generates an annual turnover of around € 11 Mio. The acquisition of the said assets by Pepperl+Fuchs also included a total of 90 employment contracts. For the major part, these are located at the location in Buehl which was also taken over by Pepperl+Fuchs.
In essence, there were six reasons that favored the acquisition:
- A 30 % increase in turnover on a sagging German market
- The remote I/O-systems LB and FB cover a significant gap in the Pepperl+Fuchs portfolio
- Access to a number of potentially strong long-term customers
- Securing of product volumes for nearly 20,000 FieldBarrier products and customer-specific fieldboxes
- Appreciable increases in Ireland and Brazil
- Market consolidation and protection against competition
Buehl to become competence center
At the moment, a total of nine teams are working on the integration of the Buehl location into the Pepperl+Fuchs Group, and the progress of the integration projects is impressive. Without disclosing the detailed results of the integration teams, it can already be safely said that:
- Pepperl+Fuchs will maintain and expand the Buehl location
- The Buehl location will become the core of product competence on the subject of remote I/0 systems
- Processes which are complementary to Pepperl+Fuchs Mannheim have been or will be established in the production areas
The projects Reliance JERPII and ABB ONGC, which have been (re)gained in the meantime, will not only give additional motivation and lift, they also provide clear evidence that our integration and synergy targets are within reach.
